A 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra R sold for a spectacular $132,000 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale earlier this year, making it the most expensive Fox Body Mustang ever moved at auction. Now, a different 1993 Mustang Cobra R will hit the auction block at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach event, and we’re curious to see how much it will fetch.
The Cobra R is a pretty rare vehicle and was sold as new only to those with professional race car licenses. The Palm Beach example is the 73rd of 107 copies made, while the other was No. 11. It has logged 589 actual miles, similar to the one sold in Scottsdale. Both vehicles had two previous owners each.
Under the hood of the Cobra R sits a 5.0-liter V-8 engine, which is paired to a five-speed manual transmission. These models produce 235 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the R Competition package, the car features a performance suspension, aluminum wheels, power disc brakes, aluminum radiator, auxiliary engine cooler, and power steering cooler. It also has a sport-tuned dual exhaust. To save weight, it goes without a radio, back seat, or air conditioning.
Has the Fox Body Mustang’s time come? We’ll find out very soon.
