The Tailor Made program is used to satisfying the desire of clients, often through delicate stylistic touches that render each car unique. These can include particular design changes, colors, or materials, which for the owner carry a special reference to their personal lives.
But in the case of Michal Korecky the desire was to create features that paid homage to other cars already in his collection. It was a demanding commission from a man possessed with an enormous depth of passion for, and knowledge of, the marque’s heritage.
As the Czech businessman showed TOFM around his astonishing collection his enthusiasm peaked when he presented six very particular cars: three iconic Ferrari, alongside three modern models that had been Tailor Made to render each a ‘spiritual double’ of the icon to which it pays homage. Michal explains: “You can make almost every detail unique – and we really paid attention to every detail.”
He first points to his F12berlinetta. Its unique detailing was inspired by his iconic 275 GTB from 1966. More accurately it is a 275 GTC, with the ‘C’ referring to its competition pedigree, it’s racing zenith undoubtedly the 1966 victory in its class in the Nürburgring 1000km. “I was amazed by how fast and how driveable the 275 GTC is,” says Michal. He wanted to make his brand new F12berlinetta “as much as possible like the 275 GTC, via the Ferrari Tailor Made program.”
Thus the deep red Amaranto paintwork matches perfectly. To reproduce the 1960s chrome look, Tailor Made added highlights – in the evocatively named ‘Argento Nürburgring’ tone – such as the mirrors and the ‘dream lines’ over the windows. The 275 GTC’s side-exit exhaust is hinted at by a stripe along the side of the F12berlinetta.
Front and rear metal grilles draw inspiration from 1966, and the matt-finished wheels echo the 275’s disc wheels. The ‘98’ roundels on the doors mimic the racing number of the Nürburgring car. The Connolly leather upholstery incorporates red striping – as did the 1960s car – enhanced by Argento Nürburgring aluminum interior parts and glossy deep red carbon-fiber. A between-the-seats plaque declares: ‘Inspired by 275 GTC Winner Nürburgring 1966’.
Michal concludes: “The 275 GTC and F12berlinetta may be 50 years apart, but when I drive them, I don’t feel that 50-year difference. There’s absolutely a common thread between them.”
His 812 Superfast was Tailor Made to honor his 365 GTB4 ‘Daytona’ from 1973. “These are both big, powerful muscle cars.” Its Metallic Blu Dino paint was inspired by the Daytona’s livery. Glossy stainless steel exhaust tips and Argento Nürburgring lines replicated the chromework.
“Recalling the Daytona’s Borrani wire wheels was tough,” says Michal, “but the ball-polished forged wheels really do that.” Inside, perforated Heritage leather with blue stitching and blue stripes is matched by ribbed black panels in the doors and shimmering blue carbon-fiber trim.
The last of the trio was prompted by a truly iconic GT racing car, the Ferrari 458 Italia GT2 which won its class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2014. He chose a 488 Pista in order to “have a Tailor Made tribute to ‘Number 51’ because it’s such an important car” in the Ferrari story. The racer’s Italian-tricolor livery also features a unique three-pointed ‘crown’ on the roof. Graphics on the mirrors recall the snaking shape of the racing mirrors.
The number ‘51’ appears on the front lid and on the steering wheel. Inside, carbon abounds. Michal says: “Matt carbon gives that racing feel, everything as light as possible.” He describes the end result as something between a road car and a racer.
“To give birth to your own car is a unique story,” the Czech Ferrarista enthuses. “Tailor Made is a very friendly environment and the team is professional, precise, and experienced. They always understand your vision. In the end, you stand alone and you have to decide. I always like to have some personal touches to show that it’s a reflection of me.”
