There are basically two types of tow or wrecker trucks used to move various vehicles, the Rollback and the Tow (or hook & chain).
Rollback – the entire back of the truck is fitted with a bed that can be hydraulically inclined and moved to ground level, allowing the vehicle being towed to be placed on it under its own power or pulled by a winch.
Tow – a boom with chains or a sling type of mechanism is secured onto the back of the truck.
